Wake up sleepy head!

Wait What? School Started?

Good Morning Eagles! Happy First Day of School!!!

Hi and Welcome back!

Feeling confused, overwhelmed, and unsure about how distance learning will go and how to manage our new secondary schedule? Never fear, we are here. Distance learning is new to all of us, and if you are feeling worried or unsure, just know that you are not alone. We are in this together and we will be learning how to manage all the new moving parts to our current distance learning schedule, along with detailed trainings for how to use our new Learning Management System (LMS) Canvas while aiming to stay healthy and mindful in the process. Here are some ideas below to help with our new schedule.

Some tips for a great week with productive days.

  1. Keep up with using your school planner! Use your planner and fill it in daily with specific tasks to complete for assignments and personal goals. Color code subjects to make due dates or details easier to find. Be detailed and make it a habit so that eventually you will not have to even think about it.

2. Keep a schedule and stick to it!

Go to bed at the same time every night and make sure that it is a reasonable hour so that you are getting enough rest (this is a setting that you can set on your phone....hint hint). Do your best to transition to a school sleep schedule and not the stay up all night and sleep all day summer schedule that some of us all have become used to.

Wake up at the same time daily as if you were actually coming to school. Do all the things that you do before coming to school that you would normally do to help with this transition. Wake up, shower, have a good breakfast and then have a place at home if you can that is dedicated to just school so that it helps to create a regular schedule.

3. Ditch the phone! Research shows that you should put your phone down or any electronic device that emits blue light 30 minutes before you go to bed. Find other things to do. Read a book or write in a journal. Read more about this by clicking the link below! https://www.sclhealth.org/blog/2019/09/why-it-is-time-to-ditch-the-phone-before-bed/

4. Make a to do list Make a list of things that need to be done for the day either in the morning or the night before so that you have a plan for the day and so you can stay on track with assignments or tasks. This way you won't forget anything. Check off tasks as you complete them!

5. Move your body! Exercise is where it's at! Want to sleep better AND feel better......go for as walk or run or a ride a bike or skateboard....just make sure to wear a mask and social distance and just keep moving! Since you have a PE class anyway, get moving! Remember to fuel your body with healthy food whenever you can. This will give your body the energy it needs to both work efficiently and to concentrate on your schoolwork. Just because some snack food tastes good doesn't mean it is good fuel for your body.

6. HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE! Drink more water! So how much fluid does the average, healthy adult living in a temperate climate need? The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:

  • About 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids for men

  • About 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women

So, figure out what cup or water bottle to use and the keep filling it up and keep track of it in your planner. It is not as easy as some might think to drink enough water, especially if you are not exercising regularly or when it is not hot outside. Make a goal for yourself and try to stick to it!
