Hi! Welcome to my blog! Thanks for stopping by and taking the time get to know me. I am thrilled to be here at Emerson Junior High and am looking forward to our upcoming school year with excitement. Even though things seem a little unsettled at the moment, it is an opportunity for us all to come together and work hard to help educate and support our students, families, staff and teachers.
Even though I am new to Emerson, I am not new to Davis. I am a third generation Davis local and have watched this little town grow. I have taught in the Davis school system for over 20 years at multiple secondary sites as a physical education teacher and was the varsity volleyball coach at Davis High for the greater part of my coaching career.
I am the proud mom to three kids and three dogs dogs, Wilson, Olive and Gus. My oldest daughter, Makena Sherwood is a 2015 Davis High Graduate and now is living in Boulder, Colorado and having a great adventure there after graduating from Arizona State with a degree in public health, my son Jake Sherwood graduated in 2017 from Centennial High School in Las Vegas and is now attending college and playing golf for Marian University in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin with his goldendoodle Goose, and my youngest daughter, Tegan Choate is a junior at Davis High.
My husband Randy and I moved away from Davis for a few years so that we could be a little more flexible for his job, and during that time I took a little break from teaching and coaching. But, I got bored, so I decided to get my masters in Athletic Administration and Coaching with the intention of becoming a high school athletic director. After an extremely long career in Major League Baseball in 2016, Randy retired and we moved back to Davis to be closer to family and that is when I started teaching again. I also was able to put my athletic director skill set to work as I served as the athletic director not only at Holmes but at Harper as well.
Long story short, I started becoming interested in administration after subbing for a few different principals in the district, and then October an interim position opened up at Davis High as a vice principal and it was an opportunity that I could not pass up. Then, in January I was asked to move over to Emerson to fill as interim for the vice principal position and the rest is history! I got the job as the vice principal at Emerson this summer and am an officially an Eagle!
